Rory McIlroy outscored Tiger Woods by one shot to win their exhibition match in China on Monday.
McIlroy & Woods at the 'Duel at Lake Jinsha'
Dubbed the 'Duel at Lake Jinsha', the match took place at the Jinsha Lake Golf Club in central China, pitting the world's top two golfers against each other in a one-off, 18-hole exhibition match.
Reports suggested that Woods was receiving $2 million for his appearance at the event, while McIlroy was earning $1 million.
McIlroy took an early lead with two birdies on the first three holes, eventually carding a five-under 67, one better than Woods' 68, which featured six birdies and two bogeys.
Both players are in Asia for a series of lucrative tournaments currently taking place in the region. McIlroy was coming off a second place in last week's BMW Masters in Shanghai on the European
Tour, while Woods finished fourth in Malaysia at the PGA Tour's CIMB Asia Pacific Classic.
Neither player will be appearing in this week's WGC-HSBC Champions event - also in China - starting on Thursday. McIlroy is taking the week off before taking part in the Barclays Singapore Open on the European Tour, while Woods will end his season at the World Challenge in California in a month's time.
