Adam Scott may be the main attraction at the Talisker Masters, but it's compatriot Matthew Guyatt who holds the first round lead.
Guyatt: Stealing the limelight
The little-known Australian fired a seven-under-par 65 to hold a two shot advantage after Thursday's running.
The Queenslander opened his round with a birdie and enjoyed a run of three further birdies from the 6th to the 8th. A lone bogey at the 13th cancelled out a birdie captured on the 11th but another run of three birdies on the trot from 14 to 16 ensured that he managed the low round of the day.
Ominously for Guyatt, Scott and Ryder Cup star Ian Poulter are lurking on five-under where they are joined by Michael Hendry.
Scott will be frustrated not to have done better after he began the day with four consecutive birdies and took the turn in 31. However, he was unable to keep up the pace and only managed one further birdie on the back nine and bogeyed the last.
Poulter was solid for much of the day, notching up five birdies before his approach shot on the 16th careered off a tree and into the fairway bunker from where he could only manage a bogey. However, a birdie on the last softened the blow for the defending champion.
The Englishman admitted that he was content rather overjoyed with his efforts.
"Five under is acceptable, but it is a golf course that if you play well and you give yourself a lot of chances, you would expect to hole a lot of putts," he said.
"The greens are perfect, so if you hit your line it is a great chance of going in."
The tournament's other major draw card, Graeme McDowell, carded a respectable 71.
